About Griffith Sailing Club

Located on the western shore of Griffith’s Lake Wyangan, the Griffith Sailing Club offers non-powered water sports for the whole family. Enjoy the lawns, shady trees, amenities and privacy of the sailing club while you relax sailing, rowing or kayaking.

Sailing

The sailing club caters mainly for off the beach dinghies and catamarans; however, Lake Wyangan is deep enough for trailer sailors up to 6m in lengths, which can be launched at the club’s ramp or the neighboring public area.

The club sails every Sunday afternoon from 1 September through to 30 April. All boats compete on Yardstick handicap to level out the performance of all boats. We also run a winter sailing series for the more hardy sailors. Often, it is some of the best sailing of the year!

If you are not into competing, but just want to come along any enjoy a leisurely cruise around the lake, and develop your sailing skills, you can do that too. There is always someone who can offer tips on how to sail better and have a chat with afterwards.

Sail with us every Sunday afternoon

From 1 September to 30 April

Beginners are always welcome at the Griffith Sailing Club

Join a Learn to Sail program (when available), or just come down and we can show you how one on one.  If you don’t have your own boat, but want to try out the sport and learn what makes a sailing boat work, you can borrow one of the club’s boats.

We have a Laser dinghy and Maricat catamaran you can borrow until you decide what you want to buy.

Kayaking

We have a group of kayakers at the Griffith Sailing Club who enjoy the facilities and the solitude of Lake Wyangan mainly in the mornings and evenings as individuals.

We do not run any competitive events. We kayak at our leisure or in groups who are content to cruise around the lake at our own pace and time.

The warmer months are the most popular time to be out on the lake. We go out in groups on Sunday mornings at 8.00am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings during daylight saving, at 6.00pm. Others go out most mornings or evenings by themselves.

During the winter months, only the more ardent members go out. This is generally the best time of the year for lake conditions and for the extensive variety and numbers of birds that live and breed on the lake.

Occasionally, we organise all day river trips. These are very popular because they are much longer than just a lap around the lake and far more enjoyable with picnic breaks along the way and a BBQ to finish.

Rowing

The club has a small group or rowers who row for pleasure. The club has single, double and quad sculls available for experienced rowers.
